Handbook of Moral and Character Education 2nd Edition - Educational Psychology Handbook

There is widespread agreement that schools should contribute to the moral development and character formation of their students. In fact, 80% of US states currently have mandates regarding character education.

However, the pervasiveness of the support for moral and character education masks a high degree of controversy surrounding its meaning and methods. The purpose of this handbook is to supplant the prevalent ideological rhetoric of the field with a comprehensive, research-oriented volume that both describes the extensive changes that have occurred over the last fifteen years and points forward to the future.

Now in its second edition, this book includes the latest applications of developmental and cognitive psychology to moral and character education from preschool to college settings, and much more.

Global Citizenship in the English Language Classroom - British Council

The diverse interpretations teachers of English around the world have been giving to the task of promoting global citizenship in their classrooms are reflected in this collection with understandings that range from a more prescriptive approach to a transformational one.

As such they bring the potential for new approaches to be tried out in different contexts. We hope the initiative of making these views and ideas more publicly available will inspire teachers to experiment and evaluate the results.

The world is changing rapidly and as educators teachers of English are being required to take a stand on political and ethical grounds, making informed decisions about why and what to teach. It is our hope that this book will succeed in helping teachers to move in that direction.

English Next by David Graddol - British Council

This book explores some very recent trends in the use of English worldwide and its changing relationships with other languages.

It builds on the analysis given in a report I wrote for the British Council in 1997 called The Future of English? The main findings of The Future of English? were:
+ that the future development of English as a global language might be less straightforward than had been assumed
+ that the global spread of English raised not just linguistic, educational and economic issues but also cultural, political and ethical ones
+ that the key drivers of change were demographic, economic, technological and long-term trends in society
+ that the relationship between English and globalisation was a complex one: economic globalisation encouraged the spread of English but the spread of English also encouraged globalisation
+ that the growth of China would have a significant impact on the world in which English was used and learned
+ that countries like India in which English is spoken extensively as a second language will play a major role in the development of global English.

A Collection of Short Contemporary Stories by James W Nelson

I am one of the lucky ones who can see that hidden short story, imagine how it could happen differently, take a note or two (I almost always have a tiny notebook and pen on me, and if I don't I'll take a napkin, a piece of newspaper, even my hand to write on, and I'll attempt to borrow a pen from anyone who's near me from an elegant-looking lady to the scariest-looking guy you can imagine!

I've even been known to buy a pen; I must write down that note or two!) and then, on the way home, I'll scribble more on whatever is handy, and when I get home, I'll drop every other household chore—including eating—until I've gotten those first thoughts safely stored on my hard drive. It used to be harder: I'd have to write everything down by hand and then get to the manual typewriter. (James W. Nelson)

Whats Up American Idioms by Pamela McPartland

1-Whats Up American Idioms by Pamela McPartland

What's Up? is a book about idioms. In fact, "What's up?" is an idiom. An idiom is a group of words that has a special meaning. The meaning of the group of words is different from the meanings of the individual words together.
For example, the group of words "What's up?" means "What's new?" or "What's happening?" The word "up alone does not mean "new" or "happening," but when it's combined with "what's," it means "What's new?"
This doesn't mean that every group of words is an idiom. For example, "up the hill" is a group of words, but it doesn't have a special meaning. Each word has its ordinary meaning. In this example, "up" means the opposite of "down."
