GRE Real Test 2002-2008

The GRE was significantly overhauled in August 2011, resulting in an exam that is not adaptive on a question-by-question basis, but rather by section, so that the performance on the first verbal and math sections determine the difficulty of the second sections presented. Overall, the test retained the sections and many of the question types from its predecessor, but the scoring scale was changed to a 130 to 170 scale (from a 200 to 800 scale)

If you are planning to take the GRE, then the first step to be taken is to acquaint yourself with all aspects of the exam. The test is designed to test your verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing skills.

Therefore, apart from a good knowledge of the fundamentals of subjects that form a part of the content tested by the test, it is essential that you tune your writing skills as well. The writing section will require you to write two essays and you have to be adequately prepared if you want to score high in the writing section.

Kaplan GRE Premier 2012

The answer to this question is beyond the scope of this review. However, many would simply assume that Kaplan’s preeminent status is because it is the best. But, is that true? Does Kaplan provide the best material? And, most importantly, does it lead to your best score?
 
 
In this review, of course, I am only focusing on Kaplan’s book for the New GRE. But, if this book is any indication, awareness of a product does not equal quality of product. In fact, and I don’t mean to sound flippant, my favorite thing about the Kaplan New GRE book was the quality and smell of the paper.

Gruber Complete GRE Guide 2012

For Math, Gruber’s goes through the basics. It provides practice problems and voilà you are ready for the GRE. Or are you?

Gruber’s Math is lacking on four levels:
Layout: This is probably one of the last user-friendly GRE prep guides from the standpoint of layout. The math section especially feels like an information dump. I imagine must students despairing as they try to make their ways through the dense, busy pages.

Accuracy of Questions: The math questions do not really reflect the questions written by ETS. Sure you get practice on basic concepts, but the subtlety, aka trickiness, of the problems is absent

Advanced Questions: Gruber’s isn’t the way to go especially if you are looking to get a competitive score. Most of the questions are at the medium to easy-medium level. Not too much to challenge.
