Vocabulary 4000 Jeff Kolby

The 4000 Words Essential for an Educated Vocabulary.
English offers perhaps the richest vocabulary of all languages, in part because its words are culled from so many languages. It is a shame that we do not tap this rich source more often in our daily conversation to express ourselves more clearly and precisely.

Many a vocabulary book lists esoteric words we quickly forget or feel self-conscious using. However, there is a bounty of choice words between the common and the esoteric that often seem be just on the tip of our tongue. Vocabulary 4000 brings these words to the fore.

All the words you need for success in business, school, and life!

Features:

* Word Analysis section
* Idiom and Usage section
* 200 Prefixes, Roots, and Suffixes
* Concise, practical definitions
* Great for the SAT, GRE, TOEFL, and other entrance exams

The Ultimate Phrasal Verb Book

Updated to reflect questions found on the most recent ESL tests, this book presents 400 common phrasal verbs as they are used in everyday English. Phrasal verbs are verbs combined with prepositions or adverbs.

Familiarity with phrasal verbs and understanding their use as nouns (breakup, showoff, and many others), or adjectives (spaced-out, broken-down, stressed-out and many others) is essential to ESL students. This book's hundreds of examples in context and hundreds of exercises will be extremely useful to ESL students who are preparing for TOEFL or who simply wish to improve their English.

The Ins and Outs of Prepositions - A Guidebook for ESL Students

This book, now in its revised second edition, was written primarily for ESL students. However, it's also useful in remedial English courses presented on high school and college freshman levels. Students of English as a second language quickly discover that English is unlike their native tongue in the many ways it uses prepositions.

The majority of other languages have relatively few prepositions, each of them serving many different communication purposes. English is different in that it has dozens of prepositions, none having exact equivalents in other languages. This book offers practical guidelines for correct preposition usage, and provides hundreds of examples that incorporate English prepositions into familiar contexts. The author examines more than 60 prepositions.
