It is an enormous pleasure to be able lo launch (he institutionally-based series with an issue devoted to the work of the Modern Language Centre at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OlSE).
Anyone who travels round the world talking to language teachers and researchers will recognize the significance of work from OlSE in a wide range of fields.
It is hoped that, by bringing together in a compact form serious accounts of the most important projects from the Centre, we can make a great deal of crucial work accessible far beyond North America, and far beyond the academic journals where much of it has previously been reported.
