This guide explains how the planning system in England works. It is intended to give an overview only and does not set out new planning policy or guidance.

We have done our best to ensure that the information in this guide is correct as of January 2015. It is possible that some of the information is oversimplified, or may become inaccurate over time, for example because of changes to the law.

Disability Support Plain English

The Federal Government introduced Special Disability Trusts into social security legislation in 2006, aiming to encourage private provision of accommodation and care for people with a disability.

In the right circumstances, using a Special Disability Trust allows parents (and other family members) to provide assets for a person with a severe disability without affecting the person’s entitlement to the disability support pension.

AICPA Plain English guide to Independence

While the AICPA’s main purpose in issuing these revisions was to modernize the rules, it also wanted to “harmonize” them with those of the SEC and other rulemakers, simplifying them as much as possible—difficult objectives, given the complexity of today’s business environment.
The new rules follow an approach that applies the highest level of restrictions to persons on the attest engagement team and to those who can, through personal or professional interaction, generally influence the team and, therefore, the outcome of the engagement.

A plain English guide to the Localism Bill

The Localism Act (2011) is a key piece of legislation which reduces the power of central government and gives power to communities so they can have a greater role in decision-making about the future of their local areas. It has potential to benefit the historic environment and the role communities can play in managing and caring for it.
For example, the new Community Rights could be a rallying point for communities to protect their heritage assets, ensuring that they remain an integral part of community life and potentially bringing them under community control if they are at risk of being sold off. However, there is very little funding or training for communities to make use of the Act’s provisions, meaning that deprived communities and some sections of less deprived communities will be less able to take advantage of the potential community benefits.

Plain English 4 - Good Practice Guide

Plain English (sometimes referred to more broadly as plain language) is a generic term for communication in English that emphasizes clarity, brevity, and the avoidance of technical language—particularly in relation to official government or business communication.
The goal is to write in a way that is easily understood by the target audience: clear and straightforward, appropriate to their reading skills and knowledge, free of wordiness, cliché and needless jargon. It often involves using native Anglo-Saxon, or Germanic, words instead of those derived from Latin and Greek
