Theatre by S Maugham (Home-Reading Guide Included)

Middle-aged woman, a star of the London theatre, beautiful, fulfilled. But she thinks that something is missing in her life and falls in love with a very young guy, who is mesmerized by her fame. Later the young lover meets a girl of his age and falls in love with her, leaving behind his older paramour.

The story is as old as this world. What makes it so different from other million love stories? The talent of its writer and the truly wonderful finale. Maugham was able to turn the whole thing upside down. And it's not one of those sticky-sweet novels, this one has a strong character, which makes it truly interesting to read.

"Theater" is the story of Julia Lambert, the best and deservingly famous stage actress in England. On stage she is a true master of her craft, she is great in playing every possible human feeling and emotion. Off stage, however, she is not very happy with her handsome but not too bright husband; she does not have close relationship with her teenager son.

At first, amused and touched by the adoration of a young fan, she eventually falls madly in love and lives through the real feelings and emotions that she was so great in playing on stage. How she deals with love, jealousy, anger, loneliness, aging - that's what "Theater" is about. She was able to take her revenge and punish her unfaithful lover, not only as a woman but what is more important, as an artist, and that was absolutely brilliant. Masterfully told story with delightful main character - talented, witty, charming, and very clever, "Theater" is an enjoyable, insightful, and honest portrait of a woman and an artist.

A home-reading guide with ready-made exercises and vocabulary lists is included in the archive!

Primary Teaching Today An Introduction by Denis Hayes

"Primary Teaching Today: An Introduction" takes the reader 'behind the scenes' and alerts them to the fundamental attitudes and practices that every new primary teacher must acquire to make a success of their work and, crucially, to get maximum enjoyment while doing so.

With a friendly narrative style and refreshing candour, the book focuses as much on what primary teachers should aspire to be as it does on what teachers are meant to do. Thus, the early chapters orientate towards the attributes for which teachers should persevere; the later chapters are more heavily weighted towards the implications for classroom practice and work in school. The final chapter offers a variety of exercises and tasks to deepen thinking and enhance professional learning, linked to the QTS Standards.

Throughout the book there are 'Extend your thinking' prompts containing statements and questions to stimulate the reader in facing challenging issues, a 'Terminology check' to clarify meanings of terms, plus 'Strengthening practice' boxes with practical suggestions about implementation. The book is also unusual in that it provides relevant information about key issues under 'Professional learning perspectives' at the end of each chapter.

Outlines Of English Grammar by C P Mason

Of making many English grammars there is no end; nor should there be till theoretical scholarship and actual practice are more happily wedded. In this field much valuable work has already been accomplished; but it has been done largely by workers accustomed to take the scholar's point of view, and their writings are addressed rather to trained minds than to immature learners.

To find an advanced grammar unencumbered with hard words, abstruse thoughts, and difficult principles, is not altogether an easy matter. These things enhance the difficulty which an ordinary youth experiences in grasping and assimilating the facts of grammar, and create a distaste for the study.
