Everyday Situations

1-Everyday Situations Teachers Book
The transparencies in this collection can be used from the end of the second year of learning English. Each transparency deals with a typical situation such as students may encounter on a journey or while staying in Britain (or any other English-speaking country). They provide a good opportunity for introducing and reinforcing the language that is required to deal with these situations, combined with an element of light humour.
The Teacher's Book which is included does not offer model lessons; it contains a wide range of suggestions and ideas for working with the transparencies. Whether the teacher uses the material in this book as it is or in a simplified form will depend on the level of the class concerned. There is no progression in difficulty from one transparency to another, so they can be dealt with in any order.
The transparencies can be used whatever the main course materials. They are particularly suitable for introducing or rounding off the same or a similar subject in the course materials. The section Useful words and phrases contain words and expressions needed for dealing with each transparency. The Questions are designed to elicit a first description of the picture and to give practice with the vocabulary. Suggestions for further work provide further practice extending the language used, introducing additional information and in some cases including revision work. The topics in For discussion can be used in more advanced classes. Ideas for Written work have been given where they follow on naturally from the basic situation.
Topics included:
- A street scene
- A road accident
- At the post office
- A department store
- At a snack-bar
- On the ferry
- At the airport
- At the station
- At a petrol station
- Tourist information
- At a hotel
- At a campsite
- At the seaside
- Hyde Park at lunchtime
- An English living room

CAMBRIDGE Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) Past Examination Paper 2006

The Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) is a test from  ESOL about teaching English to speakers of other languages. It aims to increase teachers' confidence and enhance job prospects by focusing on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers of primary, secondary or adult learners, anywhere in the world.

TKT gives teachers a strong foundation in the core areas of teaching knowledge needed in the English language teaching classroom. It is ideal for all teachers, whatever their background and teaching experience, and is also suitable for people who would like to teach English but do not yet have a teaching position.

TKT has three core modules. These can be taken together in one exam session or separately, in any order, over three sessions. Each module consists of a test of 80 objective questions, lasting 80 minutes, which require you to select the correct answer and mark this on a computerised answer sheet.

Module 1 — Language and background to language learning and teaching:

Becoming Biliterate A Study of Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Education by Bertha Perez

This work describes the development process and dynamics of change in the course of implementing a two-way bilingual immersion education program in two school communities. The focus is on the language and literacy learning of elementary-school students and on how it is influenced by parents, teachers and policymakers.

Perez provides rich, highly detailed descriptions, both quantitative and qualitative, of the change process at the two schools involved, including student language and achievement data for five years of program implementation that were used to test the basic two-way bilingual theory, the specific school interventions, and the particular classroom instructional practices.

The contribution of "Becoming Biliterate: A Study of Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Education" is to provide a comprehensive description of contextual and instructional factors that might help or hinder the attainment of successful literacy and student outcomes in both languages. The study has broad theoretical, policy and practical instructional relevance for the many other US school districts with large student populations of non-native speakers of English. This volume should be of use to researchers, teacher educators and graduate students in bilingual and ESL education, language policy, linguistics and language education, and as a text for master's- and doctoral-level classes in these areas.

All Year Long Funny Readers Theatre for Lifes Special Times by Diana R Jenkins

This reader's theatre compilation of contemporary, humorous plays that deal with the problems middle-school students face is similar to the author's previous Teacher Ideas Press title, Just Deal With It! The plays in All Year Long! are themed to fit special times of year such as the beginning of school, holidays, and spring vacation and address problems experienced by this age group—peer pressure, fear of failure, jealousy, and more. Each reproducible play offers at least eight roles (boys and girls).

Each includes a plot summary, prop list, and costume and presentation ideas, as well as ideas for further student reading on the topic or theme. This engaging collection (which can be adapted to small group or whole class presentations) will be useful to teachers and librarians who are looking for fun things to do with kids to promote reading fluency and discussion. Grades 6-8.
