THE WAY IT IS has been prepared with the beginning student of EFL in mind. The "diary" type readings used in many of the chapters are designed to help the student better identify with the people or events depicted. The "diary" format lends itself to students' reiteration of the readings in their own words and teachers are encouraged to take advantage of this technique for effective communicative practice on the part of their students.
While no specific emphasis has been placed on particular verb tenses, the first nine chapters utilize the simple present and present progressive tenses; the last seven chapters emphasize use of the simple past tense with an admixture of the simple present.
The illustrations are general in scope and are more representational than specific but they might be used as a point of reference to develop vocabulary, as an expansion upon the reading, or as the basis for a simple oral or written composition. THE WAY IT IS has been prepared at the beginning level by maintaining the 750-word level. This revised edition was published in 2000.
THE WAY IT IS might be used separately or as a prequel of EXPERIENCING ENGLISH which has been posted on ET previously maintaining the 1000-word level.
