Academic Encounters Life in Society Reading Study Skills Writing Students Book

Academic Encounters is an academic preparation series that uses authentic materials and a sustained content approach to teach students the skills they need to take college courses in English. There are two books in the series for each content focus: an Academic Encounters title that teaches reading, study skills, and writing; and an Academic Listening Encounters title lhat concentrates on developing students' listening, note-taking, and discussion skills. The two hooks may be used independently, or they may be used together to form a complete integrated-skills academic English course.

Academic Encounters: Human Behavior is a reading, study skills, and writing book that uses authentic readings from college textbooks to introduce students to stimulating topics in psychology and communications. High-interest topics include: intelligence, body language, and love. Exercises that accompany the readings leach important reading and study skills, such as speed reading, guessing meaning from context, and examining graphs and figures. Tasks that leach academic writing skills are found throughout the book.

AcademicListening Encounters: Human Behavior develops students' listening and note-taking skills using a variety of recorded materials, including authentic interviews and formal classroom lectures. These engaging materials also provide plentiful opportunities for speaking and discussion activities. The topics precisely match those in the companion reading, study and writing book.
