There is much more in this book than is usually covered by the word ‘drama’. There are activities whose main purpose is to energize a class, to make the students feel positive and ready to work.
Other activities are designed to encourage student creativity, sometimes simple, sometimes complex, but always exciting for the student, There is also material for use with an extra-curricular English drama club and eight original sketches.
How do these activities help the teacher?
I’m sure that teachers who enjoy using drama activities in class and regularly use them will find a lot of interesting new material in this book. However, I’m also interested in providing manageable material for teachers who have less experience of using such activi ties or who think that they do not have time for them. Most teachers have very little time to do anything in the class apart from following the coursebook and preparing for exams or tests. Following the dictates of a coursebook and the requirements of an exam often mean that teachers become lecturers and providers of information, which can mean that students spend a lot of time only passively involved with the lesson.
This situation can be improved by an activity that inspires students in a way that ‘normar class activities do not. This book is full of such activities. Most of the activities in this book are quick to set up, fun to do, and do not take up much of the lesson. They will wake the students up and make them ready for the next compulsory and possibly passive part of the lesson.
