Five Star Films An Intermediate Listening Speaking Text

Through listening and speaking activities based on scenes from five classic films, this text is aimed at developing studfents' abilities to comprehend authentic text.
 
 
 
CONTENT HIGHLIGHTS
Authentic materials based on dialog from five popular motion pictures.
Authentic reading passages to develop schema.
Culturally  relavant material about indigenous people, minority issues, and language and gender.
Stimulating movies - Gone With The Wind, Dances with Wolves, To Kill a Mockingbird, Casablanca, and When Harry Met Sally.
 
 
 
Unit Contents
Each of the five chapters contains:
- A short reading with discussion questions focused on issued pertinent to the film.
- A mediumk-length authentic reading by such authors as Bruce Catton (civil war). Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights). Herman Wouk (World War II) and  Deboirah Tannen (language and gender).
- Communicative idiom development work.
- Extensive work with six scenes from the film.
- Questions for use before and after viewing the entire film.
- Follow-up activity suggestions.
- Suggestions for other films which may be of interest.
