Cultural-Historical Perspectives on Teacher Education and Development is an international volume which clarifies the purpose of initial (pre-service) teacher education and continuing professional development, and the role of universities and higher education personnel in these processes.

An edited collection of chapters by leading researchers from the UK, the US and Europe, it gains coherence from its theoretical orientation and substantive focus on teacher learning.

As the only volume now available that applies CHAT principles to teacher education and learning, Cultural-Historical Perspectives on Teacher Education and Development will be highly useful for teachers and teacher educators undertaking postgraduate and doctoral studies, particularly in the area of professional learning and development. Critical Thinking 5th Edition by Brooke Noel Moore and Richard Parker

More than any other textbook, Moore and Parker's "Critical Thinking" has defined the structure and content of the critical thinking course at colleges and universities across the country - and the authors have done so with a fun and witty writing style that students actually enjoy.

The seventh edition provides fresh topical examples and exercises taken from the real world, even more clear and focused explanations, and dramatically expanded online resources.

Creative Compounding in English by Reka Benczes - Human Cognitive Processing

Metaphorical and metonymical compounds – novel and lexicalised ones alike – are remarkably abundant in language. Yet how can we be sure that when using an expression such as land fishing in order to speak about metal detecting, the referent will be immediately understood even if the hearer had not been previously familiar with the compound?

Accordingly, this book sets out to explore whether the semantics of metaphorical and metonymical noun–noun combinations can be systematically analysed within a theoretical framework, where systematicity pertains to regularities in both the cognitive processes and the products of these processes, that is, the compounds themselves.

Backed up by recent psycholinguistic evidence, the book convincingly demonstrates that such compounds are not semantically opaque as it has been formerly claimed: they can in fact be analysed and accounted for within a cognitive linguistic framework, by the combined application of metaphor, metonymy, blending, profile determinacy and schema theory; and represent the creative and associative word formation processes that we regularly apply in everyday language.

Countdown to Non-Fiction Writing Step by Step Approach to Writing Techniques for 7-12 Years

Countdown to Non-Fiction Writing is a comprehensive and flexible resource which you can use in different ways.

It includes:
  • 37 stand-alone modules which cover all aspects of writing and understanding non-fiction texts, including the nature of language, logical thinking, recognising ‘facts’ and planning;
  • A countdown flowchart provides an overview, showing how modules are linked and allowing teachers and pupils to track their progress;
  • Photocopiable activity sheets for each module that show how to make decisions and solve problems which writers face on the journey to a finished piece of work;
  • Teachers’ notes for each module with tips and guidance, including how modules can be used in the classroom, links to other modules and curriculum links, and advice on helping and guiding pupils in their writing;
  • A self-study component so pupils can make their own progress through the material. This option gives young writers a sense of independence in thinking about their work and through offering a scaffolding of tasks, encourages confident and effective writing

Collaboration in Education by Judith J Slater and Ruth Ravid

Collaboration in Education establishes a needed framework for school/university collaborations that will be critical for others wishing to reproduce and participate in these partnerships. The contributors explore the elements necessary for sustainable collaboration in order to provide a frame of reference for others doing this work.

This volume will help readers to ask the correct questions in thinking through school/university collaboration, such as: Does this collaboration make a true change in the way each parent organization operates in the future? Does it meet the needs of a more complex and changing work environment for universities and schools? Does it impact beyond the participant institutions and inform the field by producing knowledge of use to others?

This volume also includes extensive analyses of ongoing school/university projects in the United States, Asia and Europe.

Cognitive Modeling A linguistic perspective - Human Cognitive Processing

This monograph studies cognitive operations on cognitive models across levels and domains of meaning construction. It explores in what way the same set of cognitive operations, either in isolation or in combination, account for meaning representation whether obtained on the basis of inferential activity or through constructional composition.

As a consequence, it makes explicit links between constructional and figurative meaning. The pervasiveness of cognitive operations is explored across the levels of meaning construction (argument, implicational, illocutionary, and discourse structure) distinguished by the Lexical Constructional Model.

This model is a usage-based approach to language that reconciles insights from functional and cognitive linguistics and offers a unified account of the principles and constraints that regulate both inferential activity and the constructional composition of meaning. This book is of value to scholars with an interest in linguistic evidence of cognitive activity in meaning construction. The contents relate to the fields of Cognitive Grammar, Cognitive Semantics, Construction Grammar, Functional Linguistics, and Inferential Pragmatics.

CAMBRIDGE Grammar Works

1- CAMBRIDGE Grammar Works 1 Students Book

This course provides grammar practice for young learners from elementary up to pre-intermediate level considering ther age 13-15 years. It's especially valuable for its presenting grammar in different context relevant to young learners.

For those teachers who want their students to try and be more independent in their studies this book has a full grammar reference section. The author uses simple explaining language which,  nevertheless, is not simple enough for young learners. A teacher might use these explanations as a base for their own explaining formulas (but from my point of view better understanding of grammar is achieved when the teacher explains it in L1, not in English for elementary students.)

Anyway, this book is rather nice becausr it contains a range of activity types which suit different learning styles. It is good ad using a variety of interesting topics specially chosen for young students
