This handbook is for teachers who are preparing candidates for English: Key for Schools, also known as Key English Test (KET) for Schools. The introduction gives an overview of the exam and its place within ESOL.
 
 
This is followed by a focus on each paper and includes content, advice on preparation and example papers.
 
 
English Key for Schools is a new version of English: Key, also known as Key English Test (KET), developed with exam content and topics targeted at the interests of school-age learners.
 
 
It is at Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) published by the Council of Europe.

1-Cambridge Objective KET Student Book
Objective KET is a new course offering students complete preparation for the Cambridge Key English Test (KET) examination. The course combines solid language development with systematic and thorough exam preparation and practice.
 
 
The short units give a sense of progress and cover a wide variety of motivating topics relevant for the exam. Each exam task is covered in depth in the 20 ‘Exam Folders’ which provide practical advice and useful information about the exam.

KET Vocabulary List

The KET list was originally developed by Cambridge ESOL in consultation with external consultants to guide item writers who produce materials for the KET examination.
 
 
It includes vocabulary from the Council of Europe’s Waystage (1990) specification and other vocabulary which has been shown by corpus evidence to be high-frequency.

Classroom activities for KET for schools and PET for schools exam preparation classes

There are 3-4 activities for teaching each skill: reading (crossword completion, complete cloze, split dialogues), writing (correction code, expanding sentences, group story), listening (stories, grids, using songs, telephone messages) and speaking (circle time news, more question ideas, let's talk about it, one-minute talk).
 
 
These can be also adapted to use with adult learners.
