Steve Elsworth has a BA and an MA in English from Lancaster University. He worked as an environmental consultant for, among others, the Swedish and Canadian governments, and wrote two books on the environment during this period, Acid Rain (1984) and A Dictionary of the Environment (1990). Steve worked for Greenpeace as a Campaign Director from 1988 to 1992, a period which gave him extensive media experience. Steve is now a full-time writer of ELT materials. With Jim Rose, he is the successful author of 'Go!' and 'Energy'.

June lives in Pasadena, Calif., with an embarrassing number of cats (four) and a just-right number of men (one). "Grammar Snobs Are Great Big Meanies" is her first book. She's currently working on her second Penguin grammar book, a look at the 101 most-criticized usage choices; the working title is "Mortal Syntax."

Michael Swan is a writer specializing in English language teaching and reference materials. His interests include pedagogic grammar, mother-tongue influence in second language acquisition, and the relationship between applied linguistic theory and classroom language-teaching practice, and he has published a number of articles on these topics.

Michael has had extensive experience with adult learners and has worked with teachers in many countries. He is a Visiting Professor at St Mary's College, University of Surrey.
